It started with a shelf that didn't fit
Shelve It began the way a lot of good ideas do -with frustration. We're Amy and Charlie Robson, and a few years ago we were a growing family in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, running out of space and drowning in kids' toys, and everything a family accumulates. Like everyone else, we spent a weekend trailing around retail parks for a storage unit. What we brought home didn't fit the space, took hours to build, and wobbled from day one.
Charlie had over 15 years of craftsmanship experience, and we both knew storage could be better than this. Not flat-pack furniture that fights you, and not industrial racking that looks like it escaped from a warehouse -but simple, strong wooden shelving, cut precisely to the size you actually need, that one person can build in minutes with a drill. So we made one. Then friends wanted one. Then Shelve It happened.
What we make
Every Shelve It kit is designed and precision CNC-cut to order in our workshop in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Nothing sits in a distant warehouse waiting to be picked -when you order, we cut your panels, drill your fixing points, pack your fixings and ship the lot flat-packed to your door, free anywhere on the UK mainland.
You choose everything that matters: 3, 4 or 5 tiers; 600mm, 900mm or 1200mm widths; open shelves or pigeon hole compartments; and four board finishes running from honest Rough Ply for the garage to smooth, sanded Face Ply that's smart enough for the living room. It's storage that adapts to your space -not the other way round.
Why wood, and why ours
We work in plywood and engineered board because it's strong, warm and honest -and because when it's cut properly, it makes shelving that stays rigid for years rather than months. All of our board comes from FSC-certified suppliers, harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, so the shelf holding your family's things isn't costing someone else's.
And because everything is CNC-cut in-house, every hole lines up, every panel is labelled, and every kit builds with a single drill. A 3-stack unit takes 20–30 minutes. We've read the same nightmare flat-pack instructions you have; ours fit on a couple of pages.
Who we build for
Mostly, people like us: households short on space who want the garage back, the playroom under control, and the utility room to make sense. But you'll also find Shelve It kits in small business stockrooms, start-up units and workshops around the country -anywhere someone needs strong, affordable, good-looking storage without the industrial price tag or the assembly headache.
And if the standard range doesn't quite fit? Talk to us. The workshop that cuts every kit also takes custom orders, so if you've got an awkward alcove or a specific job in mind, we can usually make it work.
